Federally injurious fish
Listings matching federal injurious-wildlife fish taxa are blocked from normal sale and shipment. Matching works at the family, genus, or species level, so common aquarium names and scientific names are both checked.
- Carps including bighead, black, silver, largescale silver, crucian, and Prussian carp.
- Snakeheads (family Channidae) and walking catfishes (family Clariidae).
- Wels catfish, Nile perch, European perch, zander, roach, stone moroko, Eurasian minnow, and Amur sleeper.
- Salmonids (family Salmonidae) require compliance review due to fish pathogen provisions.
Federally injurious aquatic invertebrates
These mollusks and crustaceans are blocked from normal sale and shipment.
- Mitten crabs (genus Eriocheir).
- Zebra mussel and quagga mussel.
- Common yabby (Cherax destructor).
Federal noxious aquatic plants
Known federal noxious aquatic weeds are blocked. A scientific name is required before an aquatic plant listing can publish, and unknown plants may require review.
- Hydrilla, giant salvinia and related Salvinia species, water spinach, and Caulerpa (Mediterranean strain).
- Hygrophila polysperma, Limnophila sessiliflora, Azolla pinnata, and others on the federal list.
Why a listing may be blocked or flagged
This is a starter set of federal rules and marketplace policy. It is not a complete legal database. State and local restrictions still apply and must be confirmed by the buyer and seller.
