1. Independent Verification Obligation

Buyers are solely responsible for confirming the legality of ownership, possession, and import of any animal or product in their jurisdiction before completing a purchase. This obligation exists regardless of what any listing states or what Platform compliance tools indicate.

Menagerie compliance tools are a safety layer and do not constitute legal advice or a guarantee that any particular animal can be lawfully purchased, possessed, shipped to, or received in your location.

2. Species and Permit Research

Before purchasing, buyers are responsible for researching applicable state, local, and federal laws governing the species they intend to purchase. Many species are restricted or prohibited in specific jurisdictions, and permits may be required for lawful possession.

Buyers should independently verify applicable laws before completing any transaction, particularly for: reptiles; birds; arachnids; marine species; aquatic plants; and any species with restricted range or protected status.

3. Live Animal Risk Acknowledgment

Live animal transport involves inherent risk. Buyers acknowledge that weather conditions, carrier handling, transit delays, species sensitivity, and environmental conditions during shipping may adversely affect animal health and survival.

No live arrival guarantee is made by Menagerie. Any live arrival policy is between the buyer and seller and is governed by the seller's disclosed terms. Buyers should review seller DOA policies before purchasing.

4. Seller Vetting

Buyers are responsible for reviewing seller ratings, reviews, policies, and disclosures before committing to a transaction. Menagerie does not independently verify all seller claims regarding species identity, health, lineage, captive-bred status, or husbandry.

Buyers assume the risk of relying on seller representations. Buyers are encouraged to ask sellers questions about health, feeding, temperament, shipping terms, and documentation before purchasing.

5. Shipping Acknowledgment

Buyers acknowledge that shipment of any animal may be restricted by destination law, carrier rules, weather conditions, or species-specific requirements. Buyers must confirm eligibility to receive the specific species before completing a purchase.

It is the buyer's responsibility to be available to receive shipments promptly upon delivery. Delayed receipt may result in animal health issues for which Menagerie bears no responsibility.

6. Care and Husbandry Responsibility

Buyers are solely responsible for providing appropriate care upon receipt of any animal. Live animals require immediate specialist attention, proper housing, temperature management, feeding, and veterinary care as needed. Buyers should research species-specific husbandry requirements before purchasing and ensure they have appropriate facilities and supplies ready before the animal arrives.

7. No Menagerie Liability

Menagerie is not liable for DOA animals, shipment failures, permit issues, care failures, regulatory actions, or any other outcome arising from buyer purchases. All claims arising from transactions are between the buyer and seller. Menagerie may provide dispute mediation as a courtesy but does not guarantee any outcome or reimbursement.

8. Forum and Community Content Disclaimer

Community advice, forum posts, and user-generated content on the Platform do not constitute veterinary advice, legal advice, or professional consultation. Buyers should consult qualified veterinarians, legal counsel, and wildlife authorities for professional guidance related to species care, health, and regulatory compliance.
