1. Platform Position

Menagerie does not ship animals, products, or any other items listed on the Platform. Menagerie does not act as a carrier, shipper, freight broker, freight forwarder, transporter, or logistics provider in connection with any transaction.

All shipments are independently arranged by sellers. Menagerie has no control over shipping methods, carriers, packaging, timing, routing, or shipment outcomes.

2. Seller Shipping Obligations

Sellers bear sole responsibility for:

  • selecting a lawful carrier and complying with all carrier policies;
  • using proper packaging that meets carrier live animal standards and ensures animal welfare during transit;
  • evaluating weather conditions at both origin and destination before shipping and declining to ship when conditions pose unacceptable risk to animal health;
  • using species-appropriate packaging, insulation, heat or cold packs, and ventilation;
  • ensuring all required permits and documentation accompany the shipment; and
  • verifying that shipment of the specific species to the specific destination is lawful under all applicable laws and carrier policies.

3. Buyer Shipping Acknowledgment

Buyers must confirm their eligibility to receive the specific species being purchased in their location before completing a transaction. It is unlawful to receive certain species in many jurisdictions.

Buyers are responsible for being present to receive shipments promptly upon delivery. Buyers may not receive shipments where prohibited by applicable federal, state, or local law.

4. Carrier Restrictions

Major carriers impose specific restrictions on live animal shipments. Sellers and buyers should be aware that:

  • USPS, FedEx, and UPS each have specific and differing policies governing live animal shipments;
  • venomous animals are prohibited by most major carriers under any circumstances;
  • insects and arachnids may be prohibited or restricted by certain carriers;
  • birds are subject to extensive federal restrictions and carrier-specific requirements; and
  • reptiles are subject to varying carrier policies that change periodically.

Sellers must independently verify current carrier policies before each shipment. Carrier policies are subject to change without notice and Menagerie makes no representation as to their current status.

5. Risk of Loss

Risk of loss, damage, injury, or death during transit rests with the transacting parties — the seller and buyer. Menagerie is not liable for any DOA animals, transit delays, confiscation by authorities, animal illness or injury during transit, shipment loss, or damage arising from shipping under any circumstances.

6. DOA Claims

Dead-on-arrival (DOA) policies are established between individual sellers and buyers. Each seller is responsible for clearly disclosing their DOA policy in their listing. Menagerie may, at its discretion, provide dispute mediation services, but Menagerie is not liable for DOA outcomes and does not guarantee any reimbursement or resolution.

Buyers must follow the seller's disclosed DOA claim procedure, including any photo documentation and reporting time requirements.

7. No Shipping Guarantee

Menagerie makes no representation or guarantee that shipping any particular species to any particular destination is lawful, feasible, safe, or permitted by any carrier. All shipping arrangements are made entirely at the risk of the participating seller and buyer.
